Birdie Bastards Tag Opener in Moab

The local Salt Lake City disc golf club, The Birdie Bastards, had there 2024 tag opener at Base Camp Adventure DGC in Moab on May 18 - 19. Spirits were high for the tag opener, many people arriving and camping as early as Thursday May 16. This was my first time at the Base Camp course. The sheer beauty is surreal. And to my surprise, the road into camp was not as bad as some stories told, my stock Subaru Forester did just fine. Though beware if there’s ever a threat of rain or washout.

Sun management and hydration are key out here. I played decent but was thrown off by the wonky tee pads to truly feel comfortable, plus adjusting to unfamiliar discs I brought in case they received a lot of rock pounding. I secured the #4 tag to begin the season.

A big thank you to Mama Bastard for the delicious food throughout the weekend, and to the club for making fun CTP prizes, trophy and new tags. SHould be a fun season with some major-like tournaments throughout the year for points leading up to the finale.
